AUSTIN, Texas — Following today’s special session in the Texas State Legislature, the Hemp Industry & Farmers of America released the following statement regarding the legislature’s disregard for Governor Abbott’s veto of SB 3 — their carbon copy hemp bill ban of Senate Bill 5:

“Texas deserves better than lawmakers who treat the governor’s veto of Senate Bill 3 as merely an inconvenient speed bump on their path to prohibition by reintroducing a carbon copy — Senate Bill 5. This misguided government overreach would devastate over 60,000 hardworking Texas farmers and small business owners who put food on their tables from hemp — a legal farm commodity, destroying American entrepreneurship in favor of heavy-handed government control. Rather than protecting Texans, this bill abandons Texas’s most vulnerable citizens — including veterans suffering from PTSD — while crushing the economic liberty that has made Texas a beacon of American prosperity.” – Hemp Industry & Farmers of America Executive Director, Brian Swensen
