ICYMI: Texas Voters Back Consumable Hemp Products, Overwhelmingly Opposed to Legislative Actions

August 6, 2025

[AUSTIN, Texas] – Fresh polling data in Texas shows strong support among voters for legal, consumable hemp-derived products with commonsense safety regulations.

The new statewide poll conducted by McLaughlin & Associates – a key pollster for President Trump in 2024 – found that only 13% of Texas voters opposed regulated hemp sales, against the 79% of supporters. Compared to previously conducted polling support has grown nearly 10% since Gov. Abbot vetoed SB3.

The data also shows that Republicans pushing a ban on hemp-derived products do so at their own peril. Texas voters – Democrats and Republicans alike – continue to see the importance of hemp-derived products in their local communities. The poll displayed broad bipartisan support with 75% of Republicans, 81% of Democrats, and 82% of Independents all expressing their support.

“Texans across party lines are united in defending their constitutional rights, and any elected official who dismisses the will of their constituents will face consequences at the ballot box. This represents a clear case of government overreach that violates the principles of individual freedom and economic liberty that Texas has always championed,” said Hemp Industry & Farmers of America Executive Director Brian Swensen. “Restricting lawfully operating businesses and limiting farmers’ ability to grow federally compliant crops goes against everything the state of Texas stands for. Texas has built its reputation on free enterprise and limited government interference, not bureaucratic mandates that crush small businesses and agricultural innovation.”

Texas voters overwhelmingly support the sale of legal hemp-derived products with commonsense safety regulations, a statewide poll revealed.

The survey, conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, one of President Trump’s top polling firms, found 79 percent of likely Texas voters support regulated hemp-derived sales, while only 13 percent oppose – a 66-point margin.

Support has grown nearly 10 percent since Abbott vetoed SB3, when the last public poll was released, suggesting a disconnect between Texas legislative leadership and Texas voters.

President Trump legalized hemp through the 2018 Farm Bill, and support for regulated use transcends party lines, with support from Republicans at 75 percent, Democrats at 81 percent, and independents at 82 percent.

Even within the conservative base, support remains strong, with support from Trump voters at 76 percent, conservatives at 75 percent, evangelicals at 74 percent, regular churchgoers at 71 percent, and seniors at 78 percent.
