Bipartisan Support for Federal Legislation, Oppose Ban on Hemp

Washington, DC – A new nationwide poll conducted by McLaughlin & Associates, one of President Trump’s campaign polling firms, reveals voters overwhelmingly support new federal legislation that keeps consumable hemp products legal with commonsense safety regulations. The study found 72% of likely American voters supported continuing legal hemp-derived products with commonsense safety regulations, while only 14% oppose it.

Following efforts around the country to enact language provisions that stifle the hemp industry, polling data exposes a stark contrast between the will of the people and government red tape. The data shows Americans 87% of Americans want to keep consumable hemp-based products legal with commonsense regulations in place that ensure safety for consumption like child-proof packaging (86%), sales to adults over 21 (85%), no marketing to children (81%), and no unnatural psychoactive substances (71%).

“Hemp prohibition is detrimental government overreach, plain and simple,” said HIFA Executive Director Brian Swensen. “The desire to ban or regulate out of existence farmers and small business owners puts hundreds of thousands of jobs at risk – and Americans across a wide political spectrum. After nearly a decade of law-abiding farmers and businesses investing in this industry, changing the rules now would be a slap in the face. Congress should think twice and work with the hemp industry that supports common-sense regulations instead of passing retroactive bans that punish responsible operators.”

The poll also shows a broad bipartisan coalition supports consumable hemp-derived products – across all party lines, with Republicans at 77%, Democrats at 71%, and Independents at 68%. There is a diverse consumer base among hemp-derived product supporters, liberals (75%), conservatives (77%), Evangelicals (70%), nonreligious voters (75%), younger voters 18-24 (77%), and seniors (67%).

The McLaughlin & Associates poll surveyed 1000 likely voters October 1-5, 2025, with a ±3.1% margin of error.
